Study Highlights Long Covid's Impact on Children

A University of Otago-led study examined the prevalence of Long Covid symptoms among children, revealing significant health impacts. Published in the International Journal of Paediatrics and Child Health, the research surveyed over 4200 participants aged 3 to 20 from late 2022 to early 2023.

• More than 20% of children reported ongoing symptoms like headaches and fatigue after Covid-19 infection.
• Pre-existing conditions such as asthma and ADHD increased the risk of post-Covid symptoms.
• Long Covid significantly reduced self-rated health statuses from "very good" to fair/poor after the Omicron wave.
• Improving ventilation and allowing rest during illness are recommended prevention strategies.
