The UN Commission on Population and Development is preparing for its 59th session in April 2026, focusing on "Population, technology and research in the context of sustainable development" with expert consultations scheduled for October 2025.

Since the 1994 International Conference on Population and Development in Cairo, technological advances have transformed how population and health policies are implemented. These changes have expanded access to reproductive health services, improved data collection, and enhanced digital education opportunities. However, technology has also created new challenges including digital divides, privacy concerns, and the spread of misinformation, particularly affecting women, marginalized groups, and developing countries.

• Expert consultations will examine population data innovations, including AI applications and geospatial analysis for policy planning
• Sessions will cover advances in sexual and reproductive health technologies, contraception, and maternal care research
• Discussions will address aging populations and technologies that extend healthy lifespans and independent living
• Focus on overcoming digital divides to ensure inclusive access to technology, especially for vulnerable populations
