AASHTO TransComm Issues Awards at Annual Meeting

The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials recently held its 2025 Committee on Transportation Communications Annual Meeting in Chicago, drawing a record 211 attendees from 37 states.

The TransComm committee, which promotes excellence in transportation communications and serves public affairs professionals from all state departments of transportation, presented its annual Skills Awards recognizing outstanding communications and marketing work. The meeting highlighted the vital role of communication professionals in the transportation industry through various award categories and project recognitions.

• Rusty Marks from West Virginia DOT received the "Public Relations Professional of the Year" award for exemplary service benefiting the transportation industry
• Chris Moynahan (WVDOT graphic designer) won the "Spirit of TransComm" award, while Chris Crabb (Oregon DOT) earned the "Vanguard" award for new communications professionals
• Multiple state DOTs were recognized, including Alabama DOT with four awards and Arizona DOT with two awards for major project outreach
• West Virginia DOT's public relations team also won for their "WV on the DOT" podcast episode
